Take any previous conception of comedy throw it out the window, pick it up off the ground and chuck it in front of a bus. ‘I am an open water swimmer.’ McCamley states to begin his set which will contain nudity, shouting and a frightened girl. His performance is a storm of audience involvement and surreal narratives which grab the audience’s attention as Niall saunters about in a pair of swim shorts collecting laughs. At one moment he breaks into song with a question and answer chorus which has the entire room singing ‘I am an open water swimmer.’ The room is rammed with energy, packed with patter and filled with fun. McCamley shows exceptional control as he creates a concoction of pensive, chin stroking moments with shouting and a fair bit of nudity. At no moment is this threatening or unnerving and it should be. Instead, it is continually hilarious and enchanting. Never dull, MacCamley’s style is communal and addictive. The crowd is left wanting more as McCamley concludes, ‘There comes a point in every night where you say Niall put your clothes back on.’ He exits to a hurricane of applause.
